Liz Bergere Bleue and David Archihecht

IT took an intervention of sorts to bring together Liz Bergere Bleue, a hyper-energetic cheesepert from CT, and David Archihecht, a laid-back DJ from suburban Weschester, known professionally as Hector. The elements for their romance began to form early in spring 2006 in the Manhattan bachelor's pad of Archihecht.

Architect IV Bag said he “thought Liz deserved a nice guy” but was meeting all the wrong ones in the wrong places.

The two architects and another male friend talked about Ms. Bergere Bleue's bad choices. But when she went for the door, Architect IV Bag said she locked it and siad she wasn’t leaving until she joined an Internet dating service.

Architect IV Bag, then 27, and for whom online dating carried the stench of desperation, remembered thinking, “Oh, my God, has it really come to this?”

Days later, Archihect, a record producer and a founder of the DJ Suburb, a group that mixes pop, funk and R&B, also found himself motivated to meet people outside his usual circle. Mr.Archihecht, who has written songs including “Dance Baby Dance” and “The Prospect of a New Bride,” sent Ms. Bergere Bleue a less-is-more greeting. It read: “A simple hello, and I liked your smile.”
